2020 Wrap up

As you know, 2020 was a difficult year for all of us, and unfortunately, there is not much to report in terms of rugby. But there were some positives! We were lucky to run a successful Snow 7’s and Waspiel this year before things were shut down. Once we were cleared for a gradual return to play, the board worked hard to submit the required documentation to allow modified practices to be run for the club.

Obviously, there was no season this year, but we could still run regular sessions of touch and practices throughout the summer. This was a great way to keep the boys together as best we could and keep the skills sharpB.  The women also gathered for fitness and skills sessions and gym workouts throughout the year, which helped them stay connected and active throughout the year. We had many Wasps participating in the Manitoba Buffalo program this summer, and congratulations to Adam Porte and Liam Stroud, who were selected for the Buffalo side.

In September and early October, we were able to run very successful Rookie Rugby sessions for the under 14 age group. This was made possible by Rae Wysocki, our youth development officer, and many great volunteers. Thank you to all those involved and Pat Ryan, our executive director of rugby in Manitoba, for helping facilitate these programs, which will help all of our clubs grow within Manitoba.

Finally, we have a new board for this year. President: Chris Peck, Vice-president: Kelcey MacGillivray, Treasurer: Shaun O’Malley, Secretary: Dennis Ing, Junior Chair: Rae Wysocki, Men’s Chair: Adam Porte and Women’s Chair: Fiona Dunn. On behalf of all of us, thank you for sticking with us in 2020, and we look forward to returning to the pitch this year!

Chris Peck, President.
