WINNIPEG WASPS SONGS

Thanks to Scott Harland who wrote RugbyFest Isle, I've Lost All My Feeling and Wasp On The Road. The rest of the songs were written by the classically trained and the bard of the WINNIPEG WASPS, the one and only Jon Jenkins.
Stray Wasps' Strut

Oooo Oooo Oooo Oooo (4 times)

Black and Gold stray Wasps sitting in a bar
Oooo Oooo Oooo Oooo
Ain't got enough strength to go very far
Oooo Oooo Oooo Oooo
I'm dead drunk but I don't care
I crawl right by with my beer in the air
Stray Wasps Strut, I'm a rugby player
Playing rugby football, HEY, Everywhere
Thrown from the game by a mean old man
I get my belly from a Labatt's can
Oooo Oooo Oooo Oooo
Oooo Oooo Oooo Oooo
I don't bother chasing (target) around- OH NO!
I slink down the pitches, looking for a try
I go to the Cambridge it it's win, lose, or tie!
Crying the blues in the referee's ear
Now, Stray Wasps we've got nothing to fear
They wish they could be as carefree and wild
Cuz we got Wasp class and we got Wasp style
Oooo Oooo Oooo Oooo
Oooo Oooo Oooo Oooo
Oooo Oooo Oooo Oooo (quietly)
Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

RugbyFest Isle

Now sit right back and you'll hear a tale
A tale of a rugby team
A trip from Winnipeg to Edmonton
With a drunken theme

The Wasps make the long trip every year
For Edmonton Rugbyfest
To deprive ourselves of sleep and put
Our livers to the test, our livers to the test

The Riviera started getting rough
They said rugby teams are banned
Now we sign in as handball players who
Have rugby balls in hand, have rugby balls in hand

Like years before we will perform
The usual tournament tricks
Like drunkenness
The stripper, too
A million beers
Someone's wife
A police car
The procession of naked men
Wasps on RUGBYFEST ISLE

The Day the Oilers Died
(we won an award for this you know, and it's committed to vinyl)

A long long time ago
I can still remember how those Oilers used to skate
The Flames knew if they had one chance
They could make Glen Sather dance
And maybe he'd be frightened for a while

Then April playoffs made him quiver
With every pass that Loob delivered
Bad news on the blue line
MacDonald made those fans whine

I can't remember if I cried
When Steve Smith passed across that line
But something touched me deep inside
The day the Oilers died

And we were singing
Bye bye to the Stanley Cup
The Calgary Flames will be drinking it up
Good old Glen Sather and Peter Puck
Are saying this is where we really fucked up
This is where we really fucked up

(This is the really sad part here)
I met a girl who cheered for the Flames
And I asked her where to lay the blame
She just smiled and turned away
And I went down to the Oilers store
Where the Stanley Cup had stood before
But the man there said the Cup had
Gone away

And all the streets of Calgary screamed
The Oilers cried and the Jets just dreamed
But not a word was spoken
Wayne Gretzky's spell was broken

And the one play I remember most
Was a clearing pass went 'twixt the posts
And Edmonton was burnt like toast
The day the Oilers died

And we were singing
Bye bye to the Stanley Cup
The Calgary Flames will be drinking it up
Good old Glen Sather and Peter Puck
Are saying this is where we really fucked up
This is where we really fucked up

Gilligan's Isle
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
A tale of a mighty side
That started out in Winnipeg
In 1965
The side was the Waspies RFC
They're colours black and gold
They rule the prairie rugby fields
Where the weather's very cold
The weather's very cold

The captain's stride out on the pitch
The referee's coin is tossed
You can count on the courage of the fearless Wasps
The game will not be lost
The game will not be lost

The Wasps drink beer in the heart of this
Old lovely Cambridge pub
You can find us there at any time

I've Lost All My Feeling

I can't close my eyes anymore or I get the spins
And there's no sensation anymore in my fingertips
I'm trying hard not to throw up
Soon maybe, maybe I'll grow up

I've lost all my feeling
Whoaoooa all my feeling
I've lost all my feeling
Now it's gone, gone, gone
Whoaoooaooa

Now there's a welcome look in my eyes when I reach for booze
And my liver spots and yellow eyes are my drinking dues
It makes me just feel like crying (baby)
Cause baby, it's last call and I'm buying

I've lost all my feeling
Whoaoooa all my feeling
I've lost all my feeling
Now it's gone, gone, gone
Whoaoooaooa

Porcelain baby, I'll get down on my knees for you
If you would only soothe me like you used to do, yeah
We had a night, a night, a night you don't have everyday
So don't don't don't let memory slip away

Barkeep (barkeep) barkeep (barkeep)
I need some run (I need some rum) I need some rum (I need some rum)
And bring Labatt's (and bring Labatt's) and bring Labatt's (and bring Labatt's)

Bring back that Labatt's feeling
Whooa that Labatt's feeling
Bring back that Labatt's feeling
Cause it's gone...gone..gone
And I won't last long
Noooaooa

Wasp On The Road

Waspies at the Big Event
RugbyFest Tournament
No sleep, no food, no sense
I can't wait for O.T.S.
When you put that beer mug in my hand
I'll open my eyes and try to stand
I'm a man of beer by more beer
Wasp on the Road

Playing drunk at Ellerslie
Pirates bought the referee
Can't pass, can't catch, can't kick
First scrum, both props got sick
I know I can't take any more booze
But I'll drink-win or lose
I'm a man of beer by more beer
Wasp on the Road

Every hotel throws us in the street
for being naked and indiscreet
We get drunk in every town
And every bar that's open we close down
I sing-Waspies at the big event
RugbyFest Tournament
No sleep, no food, no sense
I can't wait for OTS
When you put that beer mug in my hand
I'll open my eyes, and try to stand
I'm a man of beer by more beer
Wasp on the Road
Wasp on the Road

Gilligan's Isle - The Yellowhead Curse
(I include this not just because I lived it and helped write it, but because it makes mention of the late legendary Scottie Jamieson, a great guy gone far too soon) -- Jon Jenkins

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
A tale of a fateful trip
That started out in Winnipeg
In a sky blue piece of shit
The car was an '80 Dodge Omni
It's timing chain unsure
Three rugby players left that day
For a three-day tour
A three-day tour

The car broke down on the edge of an
Uncharted prairie town
With Warren King
Scottie too
Jonny J
and his hair
The rugby kit
Two 24s of Canadian
On the Yellowhead Trail

If You Want To Go To Heaven

If you want to go to Heaven when you die
When you die!
If you want to go to heaven when you die
When you die!
Wear a black and yellow bonnet
With the Waspies written on it
If you want to go to heaven when you die   YEEEHAH!!
